School wide

Schoolwide Title 1
I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself.  My name is Lynn Locantore and I am the new Title 1 teacher here at CES.  Prior to this position, I was a 2nd grade classroom teacher in the Monomoy Regional School District on Cape Cod and have been teaching in various different capacities for the past 11 years.  After relocating, my most recent teaching experience was as a long term substitute teacher in first grade here at CES.  I am thrilled to be onboard full time as the Title 1 teacher for first grade!
This year our school has qualified to follow a Schoolwide Title 1 model. What does that mean?  This means that both the reading specialist and I, are able to assist MORE students in first grade!  Our groups are more fluid, meaning students will be working with us when needed throughout the year.  Students in a Schoolwide program could receive support for just a few weeks or a full yearlong intervention, this would all depend on the needs of the individual student.  We will be working in small groups both in and out of all the first grade classrooms.  Students are identified by looking at data from grade level assessments, teacher referrals, and classroom performance and observations.  The teacher and I will work as a team to decide how much support is needed.  We will work on additional math and reading skills that are individualized based on the student needs.  These skills are taught small group through a variety of different hands on activities and games that are aligned with our math, reading and phonics curriculum.

You may see some games come home with a Title 1 stamp on it that we worked on in small group.  Please take advantage of these resources!  They are not only great practice for the kids but fun too!  If you have any questions regarding any activity that comes home from Title 1, please do not hesitate to email me at llocantore@dcrsd.org.

Check out the Title 1 and Reading Specialists blog often to check out all the fun activities we are doing!
